Swap It!!

If you’re in love with chocolates like me (I’m IN LOVE!! with chocolates, big time), I can understand if it’s really difficult for you to stay away the heavenly taste. Buuuut (a big but :P), you can always choose a healthy variety… okay, less sinful. 😛

The ultimate healthy option is to READ THE LABEL!  If it lists sugar as ingredients 1, 2 or 3, c’mon, you know better. Drop it! Other ingredients to watch out for are high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil and preservatives.You can always grab a dark chocolate vs the infamous milk chocolate which obviously contains more sugar and other fit-enemies known to men. If you’re really up to it, buy the organic kind. If you can’t, find something w/ natural ingredients… although organic is a better choice and I have not really spotted a chocolate that lists “NATURAL”. Plus, ORGANIC is a more regulated label than natural, you are sure that you are eating clean.

Or… you can always make your own chocolate!! 😉

You will need:

  • 4 oz pure cacao beans (I think cocoa powder will do, but I’m not sure)
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 packet stevia powder
  • vanilla almond milk (optional)

Depending on how bitter-sweet you want your chocolate to be, you can adjust the measurements. Place ingredients in a sauce pan, place under medium heat and mix well until melted.

When I made this, the consistency was not very thick, but after cooling at room temp and placing the finished product in the fridge, it hardened into a bar. I like mine more on the bitter side though.

Seeing that my first chocolate recipe was not such a big hit, I made some Chocolate Syrup instead. 😀

Home-made Chocolate Syrup


Ingredients:

  • cocoa powder – 1 tbsp
  • water – 2 tsp
  • honey – 2 tsp (raw or unfiltered, your choice, just go natural)
Procedure:
  • Mix well. Drizzle!

  • 1/2 cup oats (I used quick cooking this time, but you can use old fashioned oats)

Make PROGRESS, Not Excuses. – An experiment :D

Sorry I have been MIA. I enjoyed a longer-than-usual vacation with a couple of good friends. Photos to come! 🙂

One of my good friends happen to be a fitness/gym instructor so I took advantage of the vacation to ask him (more like ambush him) about workout routines, fitness, health and the like.

So I asked him about the most famous question: “How to lose weight?” and I got the most obvious answer: “Eat less, exercise more.”

Of course our goal really is to stay healthy and not just lose weight, right? So the more appropriate answer would probably be “eat right (or healthy) and workout”, but you get the point.

So anyway, I asked him about a lot of things (and so did my other friends) because a lot of you have also been asking me a lot of things (LOL) and as you know, I’m not a certified trainer nor a nutritionist, and he has been a trainer for like… forever. Okay, maybe not forever, but for the longest time. (Okay. I’ll stop rambling.)

Then I realized, not everyone has access to the gym or has weights at home. I asked him if it is possible to have a toned body without lifting weights, he said YES, probably easier and faster to achieve with weights, but possible to achieve using BODY WEIGHT.

I just had the crazy idea to try body weight routines for the next 4 weeks (or less? or more? Have not yet decided haha) to prove this theory. And this I say to those of you who have been putting off exercising – NO MORE EXCUSES. No more “gym does not fit my budget” or any other excuses that you may have.

So I will experiment using my own body. Haha! Gosh, things I do to ease boredom. But all for a good cause, yes? Tonight I will decide whether to do it for 2, 4, or 6 weeks. I might miss my kettlebell. LOL.

I will blog about my decision tomorrow and I will post my initial measurements. Then after the experiment is done, I will again take my measurements and compare. Of course there will be before and after photos. 🙂

Mix It Up Monday

I’m working all day today!! (Whaa? No more Monday Funday??)

Hehe. That’s because I’m swapping my Monday for a 5-day vacation!!! Woohoo!

I’m going island hopping in the Philippines and you might have heard of the infamous Boracay, but you have not seen the virgin islands of Bicol.

I’ve been to one island in 2010 (and I wore a t-shirt!). Here are a couple of pictures I managed to save.

As for my workouts (Day57 of #150daychallenge), I mixed it up!!

I did Toned in ’12 Abs from TIU and Hot Abs from Blogilates. 😉

As for my food, I’ve been snacking on a whole wheat bread w/ raisins and walnuts topped with almond butter spread. I already had two. And an apple. Gosh, I haven’t been eating a lot lately. I’m just thirsty. I already finished 2.5L at the moment of speaking and it’s only 3:30 pm. I will get back on track with my healthy eating. 😉

Yesterday was so much fun though, I blended whatever I have in the fridge. Ugh, forgot to take a pic. I blended cucumber, mangoes, cantaloupe and greek yogurt. YUM!!!

And, I just bought a new electric oven. Yey!! So definitely going back to healthy eating.

Oh, and I also ate this.

Here’s something to cheer you up… :)

Been feeling a bit lazy lately and this headache is not making it easy. So… I’m trying to take it lightly today and over the weekend. If I can. Hehe. Earlier this morning I did the 4×4 workout that I found on pinterest.
